Dr. Shellie Antey

Germantown Farmington Animal Hospital

Dr Shellie Antey, Owner/Veterinarian

For Dr. Shellie Antey, being a veterinarian isn’t just a profession—it’s a calling rooted in compassion, commitment, and a lifelong love of animals. As the proud owner of Germantown Farmington Animal Hospital, Dr. Antey brings years of experience in small animal medicine and surgery, a deep respect for the human-animal bond, and a personal approach that makes every pet parent feel like family.

At the heart of the practice is her belief in doing more than treating symptoms—she focuses on supporting the health, wellness, and quality of life for every animal she cares for. With a warm presence and exceptional clinical skills, Dr. Antey has built a reputation for being not only a knowledgeable and trusted veterinarian but also a dedicated advocate for pets and the people who love them. Her practice has also been the preferred veterinarian for the Germantown Animal Shelter for the past 25 years.

A Passion for Veterinary Medicine—And for People

Dr. Antey earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine, where she gained a strong foundation in small animal care, clinical diagnostics, and surgical techniques. But it was her natural connection with both animals and their owners that truly set her apart.

Whether she’s performing a complex surgery, helping a pet recover from illness, or sitting down with a client to walk through treatment options, Dr. Antey is driven by a desire to empower pet parents and provide compassionate care at every stage of an animal’s life.

She specializes in small animal medicine and surgery, and her attention to detail—combined with her calming bedside manner—helps reassure families that their pets are in capable and caring hands.

Certified, Connected, and Always Learning

As an active member of the Memphis/Shelby County Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA), and the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), Dr. Antey stays connected with colleagues, current trends, and the latest research in veterinary care.

She also holds a certification in animal aromatherapy and uses this certification to aid with certain behavioral issues she encounters with pets. Her openness to natural treatments, when appropriate, reflects her belief in tailored care that suits the unique needs of every animal—and every family.

This balance of traditional and complementary care options, combined with her unwavering professionalism, helps her deliver effective treatment plans that support long-term wellness.

Leading With Heart at Germantown Farmington Animal Hospital

At Germantown Farmington Animal Hospital, Dr. Antey has created an environment where compassion and clinical excellence come together. From the moment clients walk through the door, they’re greeted with kindness, transparency, and the kind of thoughtful care that’s hard to find anywhere else.

Dr. Antey works closely with her team to provide full-service veterinary care, with a strong focus on preventive medicine, diagnostics, surgical care, dental health, and client education. She knows that when pet parents are informed and involved, outcomes improve—and pets thrive.

Her philosophy is simple: treat every pet like her own, and treat every client like a partner in care. That mindset has helped her build strong, lasting relationships throughout the community, where she’s known not just as “the vet,” but as a friend and trusted guide through every phase of a pet’s life—from first vaccinations to senior care.

A Full Life Beyond the Clinic

While veterinary medicine takes up a big part of her heart, Dr. Antey’s life is rich and full outside the hospital walls. She shares her home with seven dogs and three cats, making it clear that her love for animals doesn’t stop when the workday ends.

She’s also a devoted wife and mother of three, balancing her role at the clinic with the joys (and sometimes chaos!) of family life. Her ability to juggle these responsibilities with grace is part of what makes her so relatable to her clients—she knows what it’s like to be busy, to worry about your pet’s health, and to want nothing more than the best for the animals you love.

One of the most inspiring aspects of her life outside of veterinary care is her long-standing commitment to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Since 2010, Dr. Antey has been a St. Jude Hero, running races and raising funds to support the hospital’s life-saving work. Her passion for giving back and helping others—whether two-legged or four—is one of the qualities that defines her leadership and her legacy.

A Love of Surgery and a Dedication to Healing

While Dr. Antey excels in many aspects of veterinary medicine, she has a particular love for surgery. She finds great satisfaction in the precision and problem-solving it requires, and she’s known for her calm, capable approach in the operating room.

But what truly motivates her isn’t the technical work alone—it’s the chance to give pets a second chance, to alleviate pain, and to restore quality of life. That dedication to healing, comfort, and meaningful outcomes is what drives her forward every day.

Whether it’s a routine spay or a complex soft tissue procedure, Dr. Antey approaches every surgery with care, skill, and a commitment to doing what’s best for the pet in her care.

Looking Ahead: A Future of Compassionate Growth

As Germantown Farmington Animal Hospital continues to grow, Dr. Antey remains focused on what matters most: personalized, compassionate care for pets and the families who love them. She’s not interested in rushing through appointments or adopting a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, she’s building a future where veterinary medicine is thoughtful, relationship-driven, and always centered on the needs of the individual animal.

With her depth of knowledge, warmth of spirit, and tireless dedication, Dr. Shellie Antey-Thompson is more than just a veterinarian—she’s a healer, a mentor, a leader, and a deeply respected member of her community.
